The Chernobyl Connection

Are you watching Chernobyl on HBO? Did you know there’s a Cuba connection?

In the decades after the disaster, Cuba provided medical, schooling, and other care for over 20,000 young victims free of charge. Recently, Cuba announced that it will begin providing care for the victims’ children. Here is a 2009 article about the care provided to children then: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/jul/02/cuba-chernobyl-health-children
The Alexia Foundation funded a project photographing some of the Ukrainian children receiving care in Cuba. The images (which are often difficult to see) can be viewed here: https://www.alexiafoundation.org/stories/chernobyl-childrens-center-tarara-cuba
